Parking on shoulders in Tahoe is Illegal

Placer County Sheriff Ed Bonner reminds residents traveling up to Tahoe to play in the snow, it is illegal to park on the shoulder of the roadway from now until May first. The lack of snow has reduced the number of vehicles parked along the road but Sgt Helen Thomson with the Placer County Sheriff’s Department says the snow stakes are not there to define parking.

“If you’re visiting the Lake Tahoe area anytime between November 1st and May 1st, there is no parking on the roadway or the shoulder. The snow stakes mainly delineate the roadway so the plows can make a straight shot down the road.”

The Sheriff says you car will be sited and towed if parked illegally in the area and the placer county code is in effect whether snow is on the roadway or not.
