The American River Ranger District will be conducting an underburn about 6 miles west of French Meadows Reservoir, in the Last Chance area this week. The plan is to burn up to 54 acres of the Last Chance Underburn , and then continue burning with a final goal of 153 acres this week. This underburn is designed to improve wildlife habitat, reduce fuels, and reduce the risk of future catastrophic wildfire. Wayne Sindel with the Tahoe National forest says smoke may be visible in our area.
“Spots on I-80 you probably can see it. You can get that good overview by Sizzler as you’re going through Auburn and maybe again as you’re going up through Colfax, there’s a couple of places that you have a view off to the southeast, you may see a column coming up and it will put up a fairly decent column.”
Fire management personnel will be working with the Redding Fire Weather Center and Placer County Air Pollution Control District to manage possible smoke impacts to local communities.
