Plane Crash in Truckee Sends Pilot to Reno Hospital

A private airplane has crashed at the Truckee Airport. The crash was reported shortly after nine yesterday (Wednesday) morning. Nevada County Sheriff’s Sergeant Rich Fevinger says the pilot of a twin engine Piper Aztec registered out of Bakersfield was taking off in a westerly direction when he veered sharply to the left and crashed near several parked airplanes.

“He was the solo occupant in a twin engine aircraft and had difficulty maintaining altitude and crashed at the airport directly after take off. He was able to extricate himself with the help of witnesses at the scene.”

The Sergeant says the pilot suffered injures to his head during the crash but was speaking with rescuers before being flown to a hospital in Reno.  The air plane caught fire after it impacted on landing. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash.
