Raising City Chickens Seminar

With the passage of the city ordinance allowing residents in Grass Valley to keep up to 4 chickens for eggs or meat, many residents are looking for help in raising chickens. Jan Blake District Administrator for the Nevada County Resource Conservation District says residents should attend the Raising ‘City’ Chickens seminar if they are unsure as to how to keep chickens

“It’s for the people that would like a couple of eggs or maybe a meat bird and they really don’t have property. What do you do? How do you set up some kind of housing system? What kind of chickens to purchase, when to get them, what to feed them. How do you raise a city chicken in your back yard?”

The informative talk will cover everything about Raising ‘City’ Chickens including natural history, types of chickens, housing, equipment and much, much more. This is a fun seminar and our speaker is an expert regarding anything chickens!

Call Sabrina at 272-3417 x 104 or sabrina.nicholson@ncrcd.org to register. There is a $5 fee to attend. Due to the popularity of this seminar, registration is a must. The talk will be at the Madelyn Helling Library on Thursday, March 8th, 2012 from 6-8pm.

I can't seem to find the particulars of the ordinance, anyone tell me what they are? Is there a difference between broilers and laying hens allowed?
