Rapist Captured in Yuba County

The Yuba County Sheriff’s Department arrested an Olivehurst man after he allegedly raped an acquaintance and threatened her with a knife, according to Sheriff Steven Durfor.

The investigation revealed that the 46-year old victim, a resident of Olivehurst, had reportedly been assaulted multiple times during a period of several days.  The suspect, Joseph Mason, 48, of Olivehurst, allegedly choked the victim until she was unconscious after a dispute between the two about one week ago.  Several days later Mason forced the victim to have sex with him while she slept.

Then, early Monday morning Mason allegedly confronted the victim once again.  This time he threatened her with a knife and raped her at her home.

Mason was arrested at his home by Yuba County Detectives Monday afternoon.  He was booked into the Yuba County Jail on charges of rape, and assault with a deadly weapon.
