RCRC Hopeful To Get Funds

The recent projections by the legislative Analyst Office showing a $5.6 billion reserve at the end of 2014-15 was welcome news to the Rural County Representatives of California. RCRC has urged the State to include past due Department of Fish and Wildlife Payment in Lieu of Taxes or PILT payments in the next years budget, and RCRC incoming Chair and Nevada County Supervisor, Nate Beason says  this report provides increased optimism that the State will honor its overdue obligations to California counties.

California PILT was established in 1949 to offset adverse impacts to county property tax revenues  when the state acquires private property for wildlife management areas.

Beason says payments were stopped about 10 years ago and now the state owes 36 California counties more than $17 million. Nevada County is owed about a quarter of a million dollars ($250,000).in PILT Funds.
