A twenty-four hour running and walking event to support cancer research that usually takes place in the late spring has been rescheduled to take place in July. Organizers for the annual Relay for Life are also trying a new location this year. Event organizer Melissa Woods says the event co-sponsored by the American Cancer Society, wlll be at Ready Springs School in Penn Valley.
Relay for Life is still taking sign-ups and is looking for teams and volunteers to participate and support the event. Its the largest world wide event to support cancer research.
Last year participating teams raised 36,000 dollars for the American Cancer Society. This year Woods says the event was postponed because of logistical issues.
Woods says they are looking for donations as well as teams and volunteers to support relay for Life. Bottled water, ice and other items are needed to help make the event a success, and Woods is also hoping to find a bagpiper to play during the evening Luminaria walk where people make candled bags- in honor of a cancer patient, victim, or survivor- that line the track after the sun sets.
