Sex Offender Sweep Lands Four in Jail

Teams of law enforcement swept a three county area last Friday checking on compliance of child molesters. Nevada County sheriff Sergeant Dan Saunders say Deputies, Police Officers, Probation Officers and US Marshals went to 23 different sex registrants’ homes. The Sergeant says a number of the people were taken into custody.

“We contacted 23 of our sexual registrants. Four of them went to jail on varying charges from violation of parole terms to being under the influence of a controlled substance. We also seized a computer for further forensic investigation.”

Nevada, Placer and El Dorado Counties carried out the sex registrants’ sweep at the same time. Sergeant Saunders says there will be more of the sweeps in the future. The sweeps are made to determine if the registrants are in completed compliance with their terms of probation and parole. The computer will be sent to a computer task force for analysis to see if any inappropriate pictures are present.
