The Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital Foundation will be saying a big thank you and presenting four awards Wednesday Jan 18, recognizing and honoring outstanding individuals from the community for their extraordinary contributions to health care. Hospital Foundation Executive Director Kimberly Parker says the Curtis Grimes Perpetual Leadership Award is given in honor of Grimes who started the hospital foundation.
“This award is given to the person who really has stepped up in both the foundation and healthcare in general and that is going to Gerald Angove. Gerry is known and loved by many in the community. He’s been on the board and the foundation at the hospital and has participated in about everything we’ve done for many years.”
Also tonight Stucki Jewelers will receive the Business of the Year Award, Carol and Don Hauswirth will receive the Volunteers of the Year award. One of Carol’s projects is to make bead bracelets in the colors representing the various types of cancer. The bracelets sell for $20.
“Those little $20 bracelets have resulted, I think it’s over $35,000 that’s come back to the cancer program because of those bracelets.”
Also tonight an award will be given posthumously to Fred Hargesheimer for Humanitarian of the year for his work in Paupa New Guinea.
