Soap Box Derby Hype For Saturday Event

The 4th annual Nevada City Adult Soap Box Derby is happening this Saturday, but a Good Day Sacramento TV crew was in Nevada City this morning to preview the course and give the event an early promotional rollout. Rich Bodine, founder and Director of the Soap Box Derby Says Good Day Sacramento’s Amie Caraba was driving some of the cars.

soapbox-2Nimrod street was closed for a few minutes at a time for the live shots of some of the cars being raced down the street….The derby will run for real Saturday from noon to about 6pm.

soapbox-3Bodine says there’s lots of shade at the park and they will have food and beverage vendors. There will also be bounce houses and free swimming for the kids at Pioneer Park Pool, as well as a kids racing event.

Soapbox-1The Adult Soap Box Derby has categories for Art and for Speed. About one third of the entries are Art Cars and 2-thirds built for speed.

Local team Gravity Wave Racing will be back to defend their speed title against the Rusty Rockets out of San Jose who came in second last year.
The Soap Box Derby raises money to make improvements at Pioneer Park . Bodine says over the years they have put in a bocci ball court , a new outdoor seating area, supported the Concert Band for improvements at the Stage and installed water bottle hydration stations at Pioneer and Calanan Park.
