A strike team of Nevada County firefighters is battling the Panther Fire, which is burning in Butte and Tehama Counties. Peardale-Chicago Park Fire Chief Jim Bierwagen says a total of 17 personnel are being sent from several local agencies.
Mutual aid is coordinated through the state Office of Emergency Services, which tries to get firefighters from agencies as nearby as possible. The strike team left yesterday (Thursday) afternoon. Bierwagen says when the call comes in, firefighters are expected to be gone for a week or more.
At last report, the Panther Fire, which is burning along the Butte-Tehama County line near the town of Butte Meadows has consumed over seven-thousand acres, and is only ten percent contained. No structures are threatened.
