Subject Tries to Pass Counterfeit 20s in Nevada City

The Nevada City Police Department is also warning business owners that someone is attempting to pass counterfeit $20 dollar bills.  Lt. Gage says Saturday night someone tried to pass 2 of the fake bills at a local grocery store.

“A guy went into the store and tried to pass two $20 bills. They said they were no good. He took them back and left and when we finally caught up with him, and identified him later, he didn’t have them anymore and there wasn’t much we could do.”

Lt. Gage said the counterfeit bills were of poor quality, he said the ink colors were running, so cashiers should be able to spot the fakes easily but it is a reminder for all retailers to check bills for authenticity.
