Inside, they found the 53-year-old suspect, identified as John Salazar, standing at the top of some stairs with a knife held to his girlfriend’s neck. The suspect said if the deputies came any closer, he would kill his girlfriend. The suspect then barricaded himself and his girlfriend in a bedroom upstairs. Both a negotiator and a SWAT team were called out to the scene, a cell phone was thrown through a window, but the suspect refused to speak with the negotiator. By 3:30 pm… Deputies decided to make contact in the bedroom, where they shot and instantly killed the suspect. Salazar was a recently released parolee and a two-strike offender. The man’s girlfriend sustained injuries, but they do not appear be from the gunfire. She was taken to the hospital for treatment.
