State Senator Doug LaMalfa says he wants to hear from residents when they receive state fire bills. The fees were mailed Monday, Aug. 13, to residents in rural areas of California.
More than 800 thousand California property owners face the new fees of about $115 per structure. Opponents like LaMalfa call the bill a tax. He represents the 4th district including Nevada, Placer, Yuba and Sutter counties. Defenders of the new rural fire fee say it’s necessary to fund firefighters in California.
