On brisk but beautiful Thanksgiving Morning over 1500 runners and walkers showed up to participate in the 7th annual Turkey Trot at Nevada Union High School. The Turkey Trot, established in memory of Mike Bratton II, supports community connections as well as raising money and awareness for mental health issues, specifically depression. Early Thursday morning, event founder and host, Mike Bratton Senior, talks about how the Turkey Trot came to be.
Mike Bratton lost his son six and a half years ago under tragic circumstances, is very open about what happened, and wants to educate others to help avoid similar circumstances from occurring.
The main beneficiary of the Turkey Trot, A New Day Counseling Center, exists because of unfortunate circumstances; but as a result, many Nevada County community members are receiving help that they may not otherwise get.
Congratulations to Mike Bratton, the Bratton Family, all of the volunteers, and the 1500 runners that showed their support on Thanksgiving morning at the 7th Annual Turkey Trot.
