The Food Bank of Nevada County is Growing

The Food Bank of Nevada County is growing its truck fleet with a new donated refrigerated truck to lengthen the storage of fresh fruits and vegetables. Tony Thompson, Executive Director of the food bank says Sacramento based Food Link, which provides the USD commodities to the Food Bank, is providing much more than just the truck.

“They’re going to be paying for the insurance for the next three years, any repairs that the truck may need, and they’re going to pay to install a refrigerated unit outside of our building so we can plug the truck in.”

Thompson says the 2004 Freightliner was brought up to Grass Valley Thursday and is like new and has already been put to work storing many of the fresh fruits and vegetables grown in the garden planted by the Food Bank this spring.
