Three Hospitalized After Three Car Accident on Highway 49

Three people were hospitalized as a result of a three car accident on highway 49 near Lady Bird Lane Monday afternoon.  Officer Blancarte says a 75 year old man from Nevada City was north bound on Highway 49 when he let his Honda Pilot drift into the north bound lane at oncoming traffic. The driver of a Toyota pickup tried to swerve to miss the Honda.

“But the left side of the pilot struck the left rear of the Toyota Tacoma. The Tacoma spun out and the Honda pilot continued into the southbound lane, directly in front of a third vehicle, a Honda Civic.”

The driver of the Pilot was taken to Sutter Roseville Hospital with major injures. The driver and passenger of the Honda Civic were transported to Sierra Nevada Hospital with non life threatening injuries. Both directions of Highway 49 were closed for almost an hour, until the road way could be cleared. The cause of this accident remains under investigation.
