Congratulations to the winners of the 5th annual BBQ Battle benefiting United Way of Nevada county. 8 teams competed last night in the parking lot of the Gold Miner’s Inn. A good crowd turned out to tasting event with the popular vote getter, the Monster team won with their baby back ribs and the Critics choice award went to the Beyers Leaf Guard team the Smokin’ Squirrels who also cooked ribs. Megan Timpany, Executive Director of the Nevada County United Way says event with the heat and the poor economy there was a good turnout.
“We did as good if not better than the year before, which I feel really good about since we’ve had an economy that doesn’t seem to be rising much, so that make me feel really good. The attendance was really good. I know that we made at least as much in attendance as we did before.”
All the proceeds from the event go into United Way of Nevada county’s community Investment Fund to be shared amongst their 20 partner agencies.
