Vehicle and Body of Missing Colfax Man Located

A missing Colfax man has been located and identified as the deceased driver of a vehicle that went off the road during snowy conditions the weekend of December 8th.  Eric Garcia, 39, was found deceased inside his vehicle at 5 p.m. Sunday December 15, one week after being reported missing.
According to Placer County Sheriff Officer, Lt. John Poretti, Eric Garcia, 39, of Colfax, was identified by the Placer County Coroner’s Office late last night.

Garcia’s vehicle had gone off of Interstate 80, near the Weimar exit. His car apparently flipped and ended upside down at the bottom of a steep embankment. Due to the snow and ice conditions earlier in the week locating Garcia’s car was very difficult.

Search and rescue teams had searched the rural roads of Placer County last week, using 4×4 teams, helicopters and patrol deputies. Sunday, the motorcycle team, working with the CHP, did a “slow search” along I-80, looking for any signs of an accident.

CHP is handling the accident investigation. The Placer County Coroner’s office will identify the cause of death.

A friend of Mr Garcia emailed us about the disappearance.
We live in Weimar and it is strange that Mr Garcia was found near our home in Weimar.
