The Washington Fire Department Auxiliary is having their 44th annual Bar-be-que to benefit the all volunteer 6-member fire and rescue team for the town of Washington. The menu includes chicken, barbecued beans, salad, dinner rolls and sodas will be available for purchase. Katie Potter a volunteer with the department says this is the only fundraiser the department has each year.
“This is our only fundraiser for the fire department itself to buy equipment. This is just our yearly fundraiser. There are six of us, that’s our whole fire department and this is our only funding.”
The barbecue begins around 3pm, on Saturday August 6th, behind the firehouse in downtown Washington. The annual barbecue has drawn around 500 people in the past and hope to draw still more to support the fire and rescue team. There will also be a raffle with items donated from local merchants including a wine tasting package. For more information and directions call Sara at 470-8486.
