Woman’s Body Found at Memorial Park Identified

Capt Rex Marks of the Grass Valley Police Department says they have positively identified the body found this morning in Memorial Park.

Capt. Marks says finger prints and other identifiers helped them I.D. the woman. An autopsy is planned with the Nevada County Coroner’s Office to determine the cause of death. Results are not expected until Monday. The circumstances leading up to Ms. Shuffield’s death remains under investigation at this time.

Memorial Park off of HWY 174 in Grass Valley looked like a crime scene today after a body was found. Grass Police Officers with the help of the Department of Justice Crime scene investigators cordoned off Memorial Ave behind the baseball fields in the parking area as investigators collected evidence from the scene.

Sgt Perry with the Grass Valley Police Department says officers arrived at the scene shortly after 7am this morning. The Preliminary investigation confirmed the finding of an unclothed body of a Caucasian female, approximately 45 to 55 years of age, having been discovered near a pair of dumpster located in the general parking lot. How long the body was there is unknown at this time. Capt Marks asks if anyone has any information about this death to contact the Grass Valley police Department at 477-4600.
