Yeager Fire Update


The Yeager Fire burning on 100 acres near Chuck Yeager Road and Waldo Roads south of Smartsville is 70 percent contained this morning. That fire broke out in grass and brush oak around 4 o’clock yesterday afternoon. No structures are threatened at this time and yesterday, numerous aircraft and ground resources were called in from Cal Fire, Tahoe National Forest, Nevada County Consolidated, Smartsville Fire, Penn Valley Fire and Beale Air Force Base. Mop up operations are continuing. Smoke from this grass fire could be seen in Penn Valley, Grass Valley and surrounding areas last evening.  Firefighters also discovered a marijuana growing operation on top of one hill and Law enforcement was called. The grass fire has not threatened structures, no injuries are reported and no evacuations have been ordered.
