Young Writers Contest Deadline Approaching

Teenage authors in Nevada County can have a short story reviewed by experts and also win cash prizes. ‘Sierra Writers’ presents their 13th annual young writers contest. Winners will receive the highly-coveted Lee Roddy Awards, named after a local author of over 50 novels written for children and young adults. The prizes awarded are cash, and double the amount given out last year. Top prize is 300 dollars, second prize is 200, third prize is 100, and there could also be some 50-dollar honorable mention awards. Gabrielle says there’s no restriction on the subject matter for the stories…

Writers must be 14 to 19, and live or go to school in Nevada County. Stories must be submitted by April first. Winners will be announced in May. Complete details can be found at www.sierrawriters.org.
