Every fall for the past fifteen years, the South Yuba River Citizen’s League (SYRCL) rallies Nevada County residents and users of the river for a clean-up day in the Yuba River watershed following a busy summer of use. This year’s event is Saturday, September 15, and takes place at a number of locations throught the area. SYRCL member, Mariam Lemov, talks about this years’ event which also includes restoration projects.
This year’s cleanup is expected to be better than in the past as the result of a River Stewards Project sponsored by Americorp. Project leader, Jessica Roberts, talks about how it was received by river users and the projects success.
Though the Yuba River Cleanup and Restoration Day takes place at 35 locations, there is a celebration to honor the cleanup volunteers at Bridgeport beginning at noon. Food, fun, and a fashion show highlight the celebration- AND… cleanup volunteers get a special parking surprise.
