13K Donation Made To GV Animal Shelter

Grass Valley’s antiquated Animal Shelter is receiving a much-needed upgrade, thanks to more generosity from longtime patrons. Carol Hamilton and her husband Robert, who are from Penn Valley, have adopted cats there. They’ve already donated a refrigerator, garbage disposal, and food, and have also funded more paid staffing. But now, Carol says, they’ve donated over $13,000 for new cat kennels and hope more improvements are in the future…

Hamilton says the new kennels will have barriers, which should greatly improve the unsanitary condition of the cages…

The built-in barriers will allow the housing of twice as many cats, or 10. Hamilton also says the bars on the windows don’t project a very welcoming exterior for people thinking of adopting. She hopes that will be addressed during Grass Valley’s next budget cycle. In the meantime, Hamilton says the city is expected to get bids back on the project in the next 6 weeks. She also hopes the upgrade will attract more volunteer labor.
