More people in Nevada County are dialing 2-1-1 than ever before. The guide to Health and Human Services set a record in February with 429 calls, and March figures to be even bigger. Ann Guerra oversees the program, and says you can call 2-1-1 for information on all kinds of county services…
Guerra says last Thursday set a record for most calls in one day. They got 35 of them…
A county report for February shows 81 of the 429 callers inquired specifically about health care, 74 callers were helped with Cal-Fresh assistance and information, and 12 people were helped with Medi-Cal enrollment. Also, many callers are over 60 years of age, and most callers are women, but Guerra says other age and demographic groups are growing as the service becomes more popular. If you dial 2-1-1 during normal business hours you will get someone in Nevada County, but you can use the service 24 hours a day. In non-peak hours, the phone will be answered at a call center outside of the county.
