2 Grass Valley Teens Die in High Speed Car Crash

Two teens are dead after a single car accident near North San Juan, late Monday night. CHP Officer Cindy Morgan says the accident was reported just before midnight on Highway 49 south of Tyler Foote Road. The two 19 year olds were south bound in a 2000 Audi when the driver lost control. Officer Morgan says the driver tried to regain control of the car, drove up onto the road embankment striking a metal paddle marker and a large cedar tree with the passenger side door. The vehicle overturned and came to rest on its roof, blocking the south bound traffic lane.

Officer Morgan says the driver suffered severe blunt force trauma and died at the scene. The passenger died a short time later.

Alcohol or drugs is not suspected at this time. The accident remains under investigation. The two teens have been identified as Adam Berardi and Micah Maneelert-Lira both of Grass Valley.

The south bound traffic lane of SR-49 was closed for the investigation of the accident with one way traffic control in effect.
