2012 Grape Harvest Good for Local Wineries

Nevada County wineries and others around the state are celebrating. Last year’s grape harvest was a record in terms of size and dollar amount.

Mark Foster is the winemaker at Nevada City Winery. He says it’s great news, considering the last two grape harvests were not very good. Foster says it’s also great for Nevada County tourism–lots of wineries have sprung up since the Nevada City Winery opened 34 years ago.

He says the Chardonnays and others are a few months away, while the red wines will take a year or two to age. The 2012 California harvest is worth 950 million dollars more than the harvest the year before.
