From the day Dr. Donald Hare founded his research and consulting group in 1959 and named it after the small Sierra Nevada town where it was located, Grass Valley Group has been a major name in the video production industry. The company has gone through many owners over the years, and in 2014 Belden acquired Grass Valley and merged the operations of Miranda and Grass Valley into a new entity, Grass Valley -A Belden Brand. Scott Murray the President of Routers and Switchers at Grass Valley says Miranda already owned a building in the Whispering Pines business Park and that’s what prompted the move out of the Nevada City Tech Center.
Murray says the building went through a $3 Million transformation into a state of the art technology center with just under 200 employees. And they did it with all local contractors.
The Grass Valley brand is known for expertise in live television production technologies and holds a leadership position in high performance cameras, production switchers, routers, and servers and other solutions critical to a high quality broadcast workflow. The company boasts more than 400 video and broadcast technology patents, 20 Emmy Awards for technical achievement and innovation, and significant research and development investment. Murray says he sees a bright future ahead for the company.
After a tour of the building Murray opened the ribbon cutting ceremony y by reminding us how many memorable events have been seen, because of Grass Valley technology.
Next, Grass Valley Mayor Jason Fouyer took the podium to express his thanks .
Foyer went on to say the company is the pride of the community.
Marco Lopez, President of Grass Valley- a Belden Brand came out from Corporate headquarters in Montreal for the official Ribbon cutting ceremony .He says anyone who is producing video is using one of their products.
Lopez says an estimated 96 percent of all tv sports programs broadcast in North America use Grass Valley switchers. Lopez also says broadcast is one of four global platforms of Belden Inc. a $2.4 Billion company that is traded on the NYSE.
