An opportunity for 8th grade students across the county to shine in Math and Science is coming to Nevada Union High School at the end of May. The 3rd Annual TechTest Jr. Math and Science Competition is taking place on May 31st. Event sponsor, the Sierra Economics and Science Foundation, is inviting students from every 8th grade class in the county plus a few from outside. Spokesperson Dave Pistone says the Foundation and test is set up inspire students to excel in Math and Science.

Pistone says the competition is a two and a half hour test that focuses on math and science concepts typically taught in middle school. There is no pre or practice tests available to students because the Foundation does not want to provide an unfair advantage to any students.

The TechTest Jr. Competition is set up similar to the high school competition where scholarships are awarded to the top scorers. Prizes will be awarded to the 8th grade competitors as well. There is no charge to participate in the contest and all participants get a free t-shirt.
