Western States Race spokesman John Trent says the  triple digit weather forcast  for Auburn will make the race brutal this year , unlike last year’s  benign temperatures  that allowed a winning time of  14 hours and 46 minutes for 29 year old Timothy Olson of Ashland Oregon.   Olson returns this year to defend his title.   Trent says the coveted prize isn’t money, but an object.
