43-Year-Old Double Murder Case Solved Yuba Co

The case of two girls, 12 and 13 years old, who were murdered in Yuba County 43 years ago has finally been solved, with the arrests of two men. Sheriff Steve Durfor says Valerie Lane and Doris Derryberry, both from Olivehurst, were reported as runaways, about a day after they went shopping at a local mall. Durfor says the case was suspended in 1976, about three years later, after over 60 interviews but no successful leads. Then, in March of 2014, the case was reviewed again. 65-year-old William Harbour has lived in the Olivehurst area the entire time. 65-year-old Don Patterson was also around for a while after the murders were committed, but was arrested in Oklahoma.
