The Grass Valley Sportsmen’s club Annual Trout Derby is going on at Lions Lake Saturday April 18th. Organizer and club member Mike Caston says it’s for children ages 3 to 12 and they will be split into three age groups and three rod and reel combination prizes will be awaded in each age group. The kids also get lunch.
The sign up begins at 7 a.m., the Fishing Derby is from 8 until noon. The awards will be given out after that. A three fish limit will apply. Caston says they should have plenty of fish.
Children must bring their own fishing gear and set it up to float Powerbait.
The Trout derby is at Lions Lake at the Nevada County Fairgrounds, it’s the last gate into the Fairgrounds off of McCourtney Rd.
Caston says the kids enjoy it so much it’s not uncommon for about 25 percent of the people who showed up for the Derby to be back out there fishing Sunday morning.
