Fire Council Says More Homeowner Protections Needed

As the Lowell fire continues to threaten homes, many property owners are stepping up protection efforts. Drummond says yard weeds should be kept at least ten feet away. She also points out that homes with yards on downward slopes need even more than the typical 100 feet of defensible space, that it should 150 to 200 feet. Homeowners also should make sure all windows are closed with flammable drapes removed.
