Traffic Signal Turned On at Brunswick Rd – Loma Rica Drive

The three month project to make major improvements to Brunswick Rd. at Loma Rica Drive is just about done. Nevada County Principal Civil Engineer, Joshua Pack says that includes a High Friction Surface Treatment to improve traction in dry and wet driving conditions….

What they haven’t done yet is test all functions of the new state of the art traffic signal at Brunswick Rd.  and Loma Rica Dr.

Pack says it will probably take them 3 hours to fully test all of the functions of the signal light. It has sensors that can detect bicycle traffic as well as vehicles. And Emergency responders will have the ability to turn the light green as they approach.

That will help  reduce emergency response times. Pack says the Brunswick at Loma Rica intersection has had the highest number of reported collisions of  any county operated intersection. Between 2000 and 2014, 42 collisions occurred. Pack says most of the collisions involve intersection ingress and egress that can be significantly reduced with the new signal light.
