Fatal Accident on Highway 49 Near Constuction Zone

One man is dead after trying to cross highway 49 in a construction area. CHP Public Information Officer Marc Morrison says a 91 year old man was trying to cross Highway 49 at La Barr Meadows Road just after noon time today (Tuesday). Officer Morrison says apparently the man was looking the other way when he walked into the path of a Chevrolet Camero driven by a 95 year old Grass Valley woman.

Coroners Deputies and a Chaplin were assisting the CHP at the accident. The name of the victim has not been released pending the notification of the next of kin. None of the construction crews working on the intersection were involved in the accident. The accident remains under investigation.
