Tomorrow is the Fourth of July the date we celebrate the birth of our nation 239th years ago. This year it is the City of Grass Valley’s turn to host the parade. The parade begins at 11 a.m. and will include more than 70 entries. The parade kicks off on the corner of Main and So Auburn St. and continues to Mill St., on to Neal St. and finishes up on South Church Street. Pre-parade entertainment will start at 10 a.m. with the Nevada County Concert Band’s curbside concert.
People can bring lawn chairs and you are advised to arrive early to get a good viewing point. KNCO’s Tom Fitzsimmons and Dena Martinez will be broadcasting the parade, live on KNCO from their vantage point on Mill Street above Tess Kitchen Store.
This years Grand Marshall’s are retired Nevada County Fairgrounds CEO Sandy Woods and John Hart-Photographer for the Union who just retired from the newspaper on June 30th.
Then at 3 p.m. the Nevada County Fairgrounds will open for a full afternoon of family friendly activities including music and entertainment. At 9:30 p.m. the fireworks show begins. The California Highway Patrol is advising motorists are not allowed to pull to the side of the highway or block roads to view the fireworks. also, no alcohol, glass, pets barbecues or personal fireworks may be taken inside the fairgrounds.
