The first big wave is scheduled to arrive overnight Thursday and continue though Friday morning, before turning to on and off showers through Saturday, with the next big wave Saturday evening and on and off into Monday morning. Obergfell also says the foothills and Sierra will also get fewer breaks than the valley, with higher rainfall totals. She says the Grass Valley-Nevada City area could get 5 to 7 inches. And because these systems come mainly from tropical moisture, there will be very little snow produced in the Sierra, except, perhaps, over 8,000 to 8,500 feet.
