This Saturday the 5th annual Kellermann’s Batwa Challenge run/walk is taking off from Pioneer Park in Nevada City on a new course this year.
The Batwa Challenge is part of the Grand Prix series of races and this year Race Director, Jean Creasey says it will follow the Tribute Trail along Deer Creek.
The Batwa Challenge got started when Creasey’s daughter, Amy created the event as her Senior Project while attending Nevada Union. The purpose was to raise funds for Dr. Scott Kellerman’s efforts to help the Batwa Pygmy’s of southwestern Uganda who, he says , in 1992 were kicked out of their homeland in the forest when it was made a heritage site for the mountain gorilla’s.
The Batwa challenge is one the same day as the fair, but Creasey says people can do both.
The starting location is at the Band Shelter in Pioneer Park and will open at 7 am. The race will start at 8 am.
People can register the day of or ahead of time on line at www.Batwa Challenge dot com
