The request of Judge Julie A. McManus for disability retirement was approved by the Commission on Judicial Performance and the Chief Justice, and became effective on July 2, 2012. Judge McManus filed for disability retirement on December 15, 2011 according to a release from the Superior Court of Nevada County
Judge McManus was appointed to the Superior Court of Nevada County in December 2005. She ran unopposed in June, 2008. Her term was due to expire in 2014.
The vacancy will be filled via appointment by the Governor. There is no timeline for the Governor to act on this appointment.
The Court acknowledges Judge McManus’ commitment to the children and families of Nevada County. Prior to appointment to the bench, she was a Deputy District Attorney for 15 years, handling cases involving child sexual and physical abuse and child homicide. Additionally, she was a Deputy County Counsel for 5 years, representing Child Protective Services. Her dedication and exemplary work-ethic were a significant part of her long-standing service to the citizens of Nevada County.
