I know I wrote the same thing back in December when we dodged the Mayan Apocalypse. But seriously, who thought that was a real thing?
This is a real thing. Asteroid 2012 DA14 is about 150 feet (45 meters) in diameter. That’s as big as a 15 story building! It is expected to fly about 17,200 miles (27,000 kilometers) above Earth’s surface at the time of closest approach, which is about 11:25 a.m. PST And it could really rearrange your agenda if it were to crash into Earth.
It’s supposed to miss, but it’s among the closest of close encounters. I mean really close, closer than some satellites orbit the earth. Here is California we won’t have a chance to see it because it will swing past the other side of the planet.
According to NASA the meteorite that fell in Russia this morning was unrelated. The science shows that rock was coming from a different direction.
Just in case, wear a helmet . . . . . . . .
