Was saddened to hear of the passing of Tim Kays this past week. Mr. Kays has been very ill the last number of years, so his death was not a shock, but still hurts. Loved seeing him at NU basketball games that I broadcast and seeing the love shown by his former students who helped get him there, like Mark and John Paye. I did not grow up here but I did not have to, to know what Coach Kays meant to the Nevada Union community. As Craig Strohm put it early today, Tim bled blue and gold. I got to meet him covering sports for the Union back in the mid 80’s when he was track and cross country coach and also got to write a feature article about him as well. I found out right away that he loved his family at home and his NU family at school. He was a gentleman and sportsman in every sense of both words, and he will be missed. Because the Tim Kays’ of the world are getting harder to find. I wish all the best to Tim’s wife, children and entire family and extended family, those that bleed Blue and Gold.
