The man accused of beating church volunteer Mary Grace Tassone and stealing her car is scheduled to be in court today. 50 year-old Alan Kierkegaard is scheduled for a hearing this morning (11am), and an arraignment later this afternoon (1pm) at the Nevada County Courthouse. After seeing surveillance video from the July 5 attack, police recognized Kierkegaard as being homeless and officers had seen him hours before the attack trying to sleep in Condon Park. ‘Speaking on KNCO Insight: Nevada County Action’ yesterday, Sierra Roots President and Council Leader Janice O’Brien says the attack has brought the homeless issue to the forefront…
O’Brien says something needs to be done…
Meanwhile, family members say Tassone continues to make improvements in her recovery, but still cannot speak. Kierkegaard was arrested July 9 after he and Tassone’s car were found in the Grass Valley K-Mart parking lot. David Alkire, who ran for District Attorney last year, is Kierkegaard’s court-appointed public defender.
