Nevada City once again getting creative when it comes to raisining funds for wildfire preparedness. The Fire Advisory Commitee presented a grant application to clear several properties owned by the city that contain no structures and are need in of clearing in order to improve fire safety. The grant is for just under 6000 dollars, but requires matching funds from the applicant. The committee came up with a program that allows community members to adopt one of the parcels. The program is called Adopt a Sliver.
In order to raise the funds to support the program, the committee requested that a GoFundMe account be set up for the Adopt a Sliver Program.
Vice Mayor Duane Strawser thinks the approach- modeled after the successful Goat Fund Me clearing project, is a creative solution.
Other council members are also in support.
Mayor Erin Minett is the chairperson of the Fire Advisory Committee. The Adopt a Sliver Program will go forward even if, for some reason, the grant is not successful.
More information will be posted soon on the Nevada City web site
