The Nevada City Adult Soap box Derby is attracting a field of 30 cars that will be racing this Saturday. Event Director, Rich Bodine says it amazing how many of the Soap Box racers are coming from out of state. The winner of last years Derby will also be returning this year.

There will be a few changes to the car specifications this year , the weight limit for the race cars will be topped off at 415 pounds.

Bodine says the fastest cars will probably be going about 45 mph this year.

There is no charge to watch the Soap Box Derby races and the public will be allowed into the Pitt Area again this year to look at the cars up close and talk with the drivers. Proceeds are generated by the entry fees the drivers pay and on food and beverage sales, and monies are spent on improvements to Pioneer Park and also to support local non-profits.
The races will be from noon to 5 p.m. this Saturday on Nimrod Street in front of Pioneer park in Nevada City.
