Air Attack Base Ready For Fire Season

The hope is that they won’t be needed that much during the summer, but the Grass Valley Air Attack Base is up and running for the season, and ready to roll. Base Commander CalFire Battalion Chief Jake Sjolund says they’ve already been involved in a few incidents…

They have not been involved in any of the fires in southern California, except to be a backup at a base down there while those planes were busy. The base at Nevada County Air Park was scheduled to open around June 15th, and that’s what they did–slightly ahead of schedule…

Sjolund says there are 13 people staffed at the base at any given time.
