The smoke that has settled over Nevada County today is from the Chips Fire burning in Plumas County and from fires burning in other area’s of the state. Joe Fish with the local Air Quality Control District says the satellite imagery of the smoke over the state is impressive.
Fish says Nevada, Plumas and Sierra Counties are under a heath advisory for high levels of smoke and ozone today. He says those people with respiratory problems should stay indoors.
The Chips fire is still very active and is pumping out some very impressive quantities of smoke. The USFS does not anticipate full containment of the Chips fire anytime in the next few days. Fish says we are also getting smoke from the fires in Lake County and in Butte County.
