Alcohol and Pot Contribute to Violence and Arrest

Alcohol and marijuana may have been contributing factors that led to the arrest of a Penn Valley man Sunday night. Joshua Aaron Smith, 52 was taken into custody following the Nevada County Sheriff’s response to a 911 call in Alta Sierra where a female victim had reported that Smith allegedly pushed her and choked her while holding her down. Smith apparently also broke a window, and attempted to burn some of the victim’s clothing. Sheriff Keith Royal describes how the incident escalated after deputies arrived.

Smith was eventually booked into the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility for a variety of offenses including domestic violence, resisting arrest and several incidents of vandalism.
