Animal Control Fees May Go Up Significantly

If you’ve ever done business with Nevada County’s animal shelter, be prepared for the possibility of some dramatic fee increases, starting in January. Boarding fees for dogs would go up two dollars a day, to 14 dollars. But for the first day, it would be an 18 dollar increase, to 30 dollars. But the co-founder of Sammie’s Friends, which provides medical care, Curt Romander, says he’ll ask County Supervisors, at their meeting on Tuesday, to make it 50 dollars. Boarding fees for the first day for cats would go up from 5 to 15 dollars, and from 5 to 10 dollars for additional days. Meanwhile, turn-in fees would jump from 15 to 50 dollars for dogs and from 10 to 25 dollars for cats. Romander says that might reduce impulsive acts by some pet owners…
