More outdoor recreational opportunities are being protected by the Bear Yuba Land Trust. It’s around 2000 acres of forest and granite landscapes in the High Sierra near Fordyce, Meadow, and Sterling Lakes. The Director of Land Stewardship, Erin Tarr, says it’s part of a 2003 PG and E bankruptcy settlement when the utility agreed to permanently protect watershed lands associated with its hydroelectric facilities…
Tarr says these lands encompass important reservoirs in the headwaters region and they’ll be protected from development for centuries to come…
The Bear Yuba Land Trust says land stewardship within the watershed is also crucial to preserving a reliable water supply and improving water quality. Meanwhile, Tarr says the Trust is also anticipating protecting another 14,000 acres in the headwaters area over the next 2 years. That includes near the Bear River and Lake Spaulding, as well as Deer Creek land transferred from PG and E to the Nevada Irrigation District.
